This session will introduce you to UCLA Fielding School of Public Health's dedication to inclusive excellence. Discover the office's initiatives to foster an inclusive community and learn about programs for incoming students, including the STEPS Program, and the OIE Fellowship. By the end, you'll gain insight into how UCLA Fielding ensures an inclusive and equitable academic journey for all.
The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health is a leader in generating public health knowledge for action and impact. In this session, you will hear from Dr. James Macinko, the Associate Dean of Research on the research and types of opportunities available in the school's 18 research centers. You will also have a chance to learn more about the practice-based research being done by Community Health Sciences Associate Professor of Teaching, Dr. Angie Denise Otiniano Verissimo.
This session you will learn how the Office of Public Health Practice (OPHP) translates research and science into practice. The office promotes and facilitates collaborations among the school’s students, faculty, staff, and community partners locally and globally.
Working with staff and faculty from the five UCLA Fielding departments and with assistance from the school’s Career and Professional Development Office, OPHP expands opportunities for students’ applied practice experiences and experiential learning by cultivating strong community partnerships; managing umbrella protocols and procedures; and collecting and interpreting data from the MPH APEx program.Â
Go on an optional one-hour tour of UCLA's beautiful campus, led by a student ambassador. Tours will end at departmental sessions rooms. You can get a preview of our campus through a virtual tour.
Meet current students, staff and faculty in your department and learn more about your program's curriculum during these sessions. All sessions will be held in the Center for Health Sciences (CHS), home of the Fielding School of Public Health.
